The ST MK2 is a genuine success story for Ford and even now it is as popular as ever especially within the tuning community with the glorious 5 pot sound. Yes the iconic 2.5 litre turbocharged engine offers potential far beyond the base level, and what a robust platform it is for those extra horses. It might very well be the most modified Ford ever…So what is Sabre Stage 2 all about? Well it can be split into two basic camps, the 300 level or the 325 level. There is movement either way /-10 depending on each car, but as a rule that’s where we end up. The difference falls to one component, the wastegate actuator. As standard they are weak and limit sustained and peak boost pressures. The turbo is willing but the actuator is not.Standard Actuator If you want to keep it simple then bolt on the basic upgrades and it can be fully optimised up to the 300bhp, sometimes a little more. The change in mid-range is exceptional, just where you want it for that big hit.Uprated Actuator If you want to go a little further with even more torque and top end performance, then time to swap out for a 7-12psi actuator. Please note, this is NOT plug and play, it does require the correct ECU calibration. Once installed we can fully optimise all the way to the full potential of the turbo up to 325bhp on standard injectors. It is sometimes possible to see a little more between 330-340bhp, but please note the standard injectors do reach their maximum before this so it is advised to upgrade.Bigger Injectors Sabre are different at this level of tuning. We do not mind you swapping out hardware i.e. bigger injectors such as RS 440cc, 550cc or as big as you want. Yes we have tuned Stage 2 on 1000cc injectors! Don’t be fooled, this is perfectly okay and it will run 100% correctly without overfueling, poor emissions or worse mpg.RS MAF You can even swap to an RS MAF and/or 3-4″crossovers, that’s no problem. These upgrades won’t increase power at the Stage 2 level, but if you are planning on going Stage 3-4 then that’s something that is future proofed for big power upgrades.Options for normal 95 octane fuels are available with around a 5-10% reduction in performance compared to 97-99 octane. There are a number of wastegate actuator options on the market and Sabre Stage 2 maps cater for them all. Bigger injectors e.g. RS , 550cc can be used. The block modification is somewhat contentious therefore we let the customer decide. It does not affect the tuning either way.
